New Zealand or...the Cook Islands
by ash on Sun 21 Jun 2009 23:58 BST
Well, the temperature in New Zealand is rather chilly so we had a complete change of itinerary, knocked NZ on the head and decided to fly to Rarotonga instead. We've now had five days here in this beautiful south seas island just chilling out , relaxing and forgeting about winter. We've been snorkelling evary day, the coral is okay but the water is very clear (when its still) and the number and variety of fish are breathtaking.
Everbody on the island seems very happy and friendly with not a care in the world, no wonder any early European seafarers who found themselves in these parts never wanted to leave and return to their cold and grey homes.

One of the beaches on Raratonga, the lagoon is only a few feet deep and full of tropical fish.

Some of the fish in the lagoon.

A Picasso fish, any idea how it got its name?

Just another fish...

The view of the island whilst snorkelling in the lagoon.
